Support Staff - Springside

Department: SPRINGSIDE

Job Summary:

The Support Staff provides service, assistance and support to residents of Springside at Seneca Hill, Inc. Retirement Community. Ensures quality and consistency in the delivery of services to residents and performs general housekeeping, cleaning, and dining room assistance.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Carry out Springside at Seneca Hill, Inc. policies and procedures.
  • Perform general cleaning in apartments and common areas as assigned.
  • Respond to concerns and problems expressed or presented by residents, family members and staff, and report to supervisor.
  • Assist with public functions for set up, serving, and clean up as needed.
  • Assure quality services in accordance with standards as trained.
  • Work with activity coordinator as needed for resident activities.
  • Encourage and/or remind residents to participate in activities.
  • Promote activities enthusiastically to peak resident interest in activities. Chaperone activities outside facility as assigned by supervisor.
  • Monitor health, safety, and well being of residents.
  • Document information pertaining to changes in residents’ functional status, personal needs, etc.
  • Assist in keeping the environment safe for residents.
  • Assist with transportation services if necessary.
  • Maintain accurate record of chargeable services (transportation, extra cleaning, personal laundry, guest meals, guest room use, etc.). Provide record to bookkeeper promptly.
  • Practice safe use of equipment, chemicals, tools, and utensils.
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, residents, volunteers, and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, Springside at Seneca Hill, Inc. operations, and personnel.
  • Promote Springside at Seneca Hill, Inc. in a positive way.
  • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, fire safety regulations, and food establishment regulations. Carry out standards and requirements of these laws/regulations in performing job tasks/responsibilities.
  • Skills in nurturing and organizing similar to those in a domestic household.
  • Maturity, friendliness and enjoyment in working with people.
  • Ability to develop trusting relationships.
  • Neat appearance, good personal hygiene.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate or learn to operate equipment/appliances: dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove/oven/griddle, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, vacuum cleaner, carpet shampoo machine, telephone, etc.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED. Reading, comprehension and writing ability at 8th grade level or higher.
  • Experience or interest in working with older adults.
  • Drivers License required. Clean driving record (verified by MVR) May be requested to drive personal vehicle to transport residents in special circumstances if needed (company reimburses mileage).

Working Conditions:

  • Work weekends, and holidays as assigned.
  • Requires the ability to lift, push or pull up to 30 lbs. using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment. Ability to bend or kneel for up to 15 consecutive minutes to perform cleaning tasks.
  • Requires the ability to work with cleaning supplies.
  • Requires ability to work 3-3.75 hours standing, walking, moving about without needing to sit down.
  • Attendance is required at assigned date, time and location.
  • Actively participates in Quality Assurance programs, CQI, cross-training, in-service programs; attends and/or participates in all mandatory classes, meetings and committees as required.
  • Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.

Pay Range; $15.75-$18.90/hr

Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
