Job Summary:

The Psych Care Tech – Psyche Acute is responsible for performing regularly scheduled duties as a member of a team in the care and treatment of clients of ages appropriate to the unit, following established methods and procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Completes accurate admission records, set up rooms, orient clients to unit and assist them as needed.
  • Regularly monitors clients in need of close observation per physician orders and policy and procedure.
  • Reports to team leader or charge nurse any observations or charges in symptomology.
  • Using knowledge of etiology of side effects from medications, observes and reports findings in a timely manner.
  • Understands the parameters of normal vital signs and reports abnormal findings to team leader.
  • Monitors the personal hygiene of clients and assist with completion of ADL’s routinely.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and understanding of the need for comfort and safety; follow through to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for clients.
  • Monitors clients’ behaviors and the potential for volatile situations; remains alert and ready to diffuse situations when necessary.
  • Adapts to the different needs of clients from adolescents to geriatrics.
  • Completes group activities as assigned.
  • Keeps current with all posted material, policies and procedures in the department.
  • Responds to emergency walk-ins or calls as assigned.
  • Assists with transport of clients to appointments and activities as assigned.
  • Presents self to clients in a professional, therapeutic manner; maintains a clear understanding of policies regarding dress code, staff/client fraternization, crises intervention, and other duties as assigned.
  • Accurately, clearly and concisely records all pertinent information, daily conversations, observed behaviors, and staff interventions in the daily shift notes per policy and procedures.
  • Completes admission documentation accurately, legibly and timely per policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with guests, clients, physicians, employees and volunteers.
  • Excellent time management skills, punctuality and a sense of urgency in completing tasks.
  • Ability to cost effectively manage resources and supplies.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 college level psychology/sociology classes

or

  • 1 year of experience working with mental health population preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing and frequently pulling, pushing, and bending.
  • Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling during the work day. Requires pushing beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 200 pounds with assistance. Requires lifting, carrying, repositioning, and transferring residents who may weigh in excess of 200 pounds.
  • Requires completion of updated assessments required by regulations.
  • Requires on the job orientation.
  • Occasionally requires assembling, operating, checking, and maintaining equipment; place work orders for client-owned electrical equipment, department repairs and faulty equipment.
  • Requires attendance of various meetings and participation on committees as required.
  • Actively participates in in-service programs, in Quality Assurance programs and CQI, cross training; attends all mandatory classes as required; completes unit-specific competencies.
  • Occasionally requires assignments to other units/shifts as hospital needs require.
  • Position requires attendance, as scheduled, to ensure requirements are met.
  • Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.

Pay Range:$17.00-$21.72/hr

Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
